Making it easy to talk

Welcome to Five Rivers Counselling. I'm Natasha, a qualified professional counsellor dedicated to helping you navigate life's challenges. Sometimes, life's complexities can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck and confused, searching for answers, purpose or a sense of direction. Speaking with a professional can really help to unpack what sits beneath the emotions, make sense of it all and reconnect. I'm here to listen - let's talk.
When can Counselling and Therapy help
It can be incredibly isolating to feel unable to talk to others when you're struggling with life or connecting with yourself.
Many people experience moments where they feel overwhelmed or anxious, or struggle with low mood, yet find it difficult to share their feelings with friends and family.
This silence can lead to feelings of loneliness and despair, making the challenges seem even more daunting.
Seeking professional help, such as counselling or coaching, can provide an invaluable safe space to express those thoughts and emotions without judgment. This allows individuals to begin healing and find hope through reframing unhelpful thoughts, gaining deeper understanding of themselves and feeling empowered to move forward in any direction and at a pace that suits them.
Remember, you are not alone, and reaching out for support is a brave step towards better mental wellbeing. I will use a range of techniques and therapeutic tools to aid your wellbeing journey, together creating an environment you feel safe to explore.
I am dedicated to empowering individuals to achieve mental well-being, build healthier relationships and navigate life's challenges with resilience. Through reflection, exploration, and a deeper understanding of self, you'll gain a sense of direction that feels right for you.

Examples of areas I can help you explore:
Anxiety - Low Mood - Worry - Emotional Instability

How Therapy works
The process of counselling and counselling training has equipped me with valuable self awareness and a deeper understanding of my core values. This experience enables me to better support others, as I can understand and relate personally to all the steps and emotions involved.
This process can involve delving into the past, present and future. There is no right or wrong way to approach counselling so the pressure is off. You do you, what ever that looks like.
You are in the driving seat and in control of where you go - taking the first step is the hardest, but you won't be alone. Together we can explore any feelings, emotions, concerns or memories that come up for you along the way.
The Journey
The power of empathy and understanding is truly transformative. By embracing these qualities, we can connect more deeply with others and create meaningful relationships. Empathy allows us to see the world through different perspectives, fostering compassion and support.
The therapeutic relationship is a collaborative process between both therapist and client. You can expect to receive dedicated time and space where you are at the heart of what matters. You will feel supported, heard and listened to without the fear of judgement. This is a confidential and safe space to explore the things that might be weighing on your mind.
You will be treated with empathy and understanding throughout the process.
Trusting the process
Counselling offers a supportive platform for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings. This can lead to you initiating positive changes through identifying personal strengths and resilience. It can help with gaining clarity and developing effective coping strategies as well as a better understanding of yourself.
Counselling can bring up emotions that have been buried deep down over time but were never spoken about. This is the space to make sense of it all. Life events and experiences come in all shapes and sizes, which can be overwhelming.
Counselling is a journey which may take you down different paths, but you'll always remain in the driving seat deciding where you go and how fast. Having trust in the process will enable you to reach your goal or outcomes from therapy.
Feeling Empowered
Mental well-being is a journey that requires continuous effort and self-reflection. It's about understanding your personal needs and finding ways to meet them, and being able to carry the weight of life in a balanced way no matter what stage you are at.
Each step you take allows you to pause, breathe, and reconnect with yourself; it's never too late to embark on this path of self-discovery.
Together, this empowers individuals on their journey to navigate challenges, whilst fostering a sense of control, confidence and purpose. You will celebrate personal growth along the way, having found your happier self and an understanding of who you are, ultimately
reconnecting with yourself.

Is Counselling right for me?

What type of Counsellor am I?

Counselling is beneficial for anyone seeking support for a variety of reasons. Some common areas are listed above however nothing is off limits, and many can find it easier to talk to a stranger.
There is not a one fits all approach to therapy and therefore the way I work with clients is to tailor the therapy to your individual needs.
You are in control of where you want to go and the direction you take, as a counsellor I'm there to help you navigate the journey and the process with you.
As an integrative counsellor and therapist I am able to use techniques from a variety of different modalities. These can include conventional talking therapy such as Counselling which uses a Person Centered Approach (PCT), but can also involve Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, taking a more solution focused approach whilst looking at unconventional thinking patterns. Transactional Analysis (TA) focuses on understanding behavior, personality and communication with others and Psychodynamic Approach (PA) which looks into the unconscious mind and its influence on behavior. I also draw on other modalities as appropriate, including Eco-Therapy (ET) e.g. walk and talk outdoors as well as coaching where necessary and appropriate.

Counselling and Therapy with Natasha
To introduce myself, I am a first generation British born Indian, with ancestral roots from the Northern region of India. Called the Punjab, it has five rivers that run through it and the name Punjab literally means Five Rivers. This connection is the inspiration behind the name of my Private Counselling and Therapy Practice. I am bilingual, speaking the native language of this region - Punjabi - enabling me to offer sessions for Punjabi speakers, making therapy more accessible.
I have wider experience working with all types of mental health concerns. I work mainly with adults and I have seen a rise in different demographics seeking counselling and therapy, with an increase in the number of male clients and clients' from ethnic backgrounds. It's a great feeling to be a practitioner who embraces individuality, diversity and inclusivity and open up therapy to those that may not have thought it was for them - everyone matters here.
I offer short term and long term counselling depending on what your needs are.

I believe that counselling and therapy is a journey we take together. I strive to create a space where you feel comfortable exploring your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. My approach is professional and relaxed, with a focus on empathy and understanding. I’m dedicated to helping you navigate life's challenges and finding your path to being the person you want to be. Becoming a counsellor has been a transformative journey for me, allowing me to make a positive impact on my own life and the lives of others.
As a counsellor, my role is not to give you advice or dictate your choices. Instead, I aim to assist you in discovering your own solutions to the challenges you are facing when life begins to feel too difficult. I support you by applying a trauma informed approach, ensuring you are not re-triggered by post trauma, and I include solution focused techniques where needed. Together, we can explore your thoughts and feelings, enabling you to make decisions that align with your authentic self and work towards a more fulfilling future.
I create a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for you to do this exploration, helping you gain new insights into your past, present, or future. Together, we will discover effective strategies to address the challenges you're facing. Your experiences matter, and I am here to help you in achieving clarity and building resilience around them.
Processing those unanswered questions can help you feel lighter and brighter. This allows you to gain a deeper understanding of why you feel the way you do and how you are affected by your experiences. Ultimately, you will be able to develop different coping strategies, which can lead to a happier and healthier version of you.
